DESCRIPTION
The Saucony Endorphin Elite 2 is very much a super‑shoe built for maximum performance, pushing toward the edge of what is allowed in elite road racing: very high stack, very soft responsive foam, carbon plate for propulsion. It brings a lot of what many racers want: bounce, speed, comfort—but with trade‑offs in stability and long‑term durability.
If you prioritize speed and cushion, and you mostly run on smooth roads (and can afford a premium), this is one of the top shoes out there. If your routes or style are more rugged, or if you want something more stable or durable, there might be better matches.
What’s Different / Improved Over the Original
-
The Elite 2 replaces the older foam with IncrediRUN, which is softer and more compliant than the previous version’s midsole foam. This gives a more cushioned, springy ride.
-
The carbon plate is slotted (especially in midfoot) to allow more flexibility and smoother transitions.
-
The upper has been updated for better breathability and better fit. Some parts like the heel collar / lockdown have been improved.
Key Specs / Features
Feature | Detail |
---|---|
Foam / Midsole | Uses Saucony’s IncrediRUN foam — a soft, very bouncy foam that gives high energy return. |
Carbon Plate | Full‑length slotted carbon fibre plate to help with a smooth transition (heel → toe) and propulsive toe‑off. |
Upper | Lightweight knit + mesh, designed for breathability. Has a secure fit for race pace. |
Weight | About 199 g for a men’s size (roughly 7 oz) |
Heel‑to‑Toe Drop | 8 mm. |
Outsole / Traction | Certain rubber (Saucony’s PWRTRAC for some versions) in high‑worn areas; grip is good, though some reviewers note it’s less sticky / secure on wet/slippery surfaces. |
Who Should Consider It
You should consider the Elite 2 if:
-
You are racing regularly (especially over half‑marathon to marathon) and want a shoe that gives you excellent energy return and cushioning.
-
You prefer/mind a ride that is softer, springy, and less rigid (you like plushness even at speed).
-
Your form is solid, you’re confident with neutral shoes, and you don’t require a lot of stability correction.
-
You prioritize performance and speed over getting a “stable all‑rounder” or long durability.
