Roi du Mont Rochelle

Posted on 11/02/2019

Franschoek is the place to go should you fancy yourself some royal treatment – a glass of wine, with some mouthwatering cheese to tempt you? Maybe you would like to be pampered with a treatment in one of the many spa’s, or to take a stroll in the perfectly manicured gardens of some of the local wine farms?

Or maybe, you’re more the adventurous sort and would like to take on the noble lands in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. Set above the sleepy town of Franschoek, the Reserve features some of the most knarly mountains around. The route takes you slowly (or fast if you’re that sort) up, and up and up, popping out on Perdekop, the first of two major peaks you will be summiting. Du Toits, the second peak you will reach via the Manganese Trail, is a kicker but the view from the top is worth it and you are rewarded with some never-ending, flowy single track all the way home.

The 22km route provides the adventure seekers approximately 1400m of vertical gain, with the start and finish being at the award-winning estate, Haute Cabriere. Your entourage will be treated to the royal treatment with some wine and food at the restaurant whilst you are royally f… having the best time tagging some major peaks.
